My husband and I recently went to the mountains to escape the chaos... But let me tell you, the chaos followed.
An hour before we had to leave, I grabbed my journal and sat in front of the mountains. This is what I had been craving for weeks- time alone with a view. I treasure these moments because this is when I can get all my thoughts / prayers / complaints / dreams out on paper... If they’re on paper I don’t have to think about them anymore! (Anyone else a fan of brain dumps? lol!)
There is a unique, restorative type of rest that comes with sitting in the quiet. This reaches the next level for me when surrounded by beauty.
I believe God created us to BREATHE, to LOOK UP, acknowledge HIM, and be restored.
...but most of us need restoration daily. Not just on mountain trips.
It hit me extra hard that I should do this everyday... but how?
Now the task – how do I create this space in my home?
1. Start with beauty. Find a window, a favorite chair, fun wallpaper, anywhere that brings you joy.
2. Make it comfy. Blankets and candles people!!! Woohoo!!!
3. Make it conducive to what brings you rest. A lamp if you’re a reader, a side table for your coffee, ect.
Create a beautiful place. A comfy place. A place to grab your journal, pray, or might I dare say...just be. The goal here is at least 5 minutes a day. (That’s all it took to spark this blog post. I’m telling you- it goes a long way!) The chaos will not likely disappear. But when we are filled with God’s presence, the chaos loses its urgency and power. When we pause – even 5 minutes! – to “set our minds on things above” (Col 3:1) it restores us. “He makes us lie down in green pastures, he leads us beside still waters, He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:2-3) present tense!!!
So here is my question for you – where is your spot? Where do you go to breathe, look up, acknowledge that awesome God of yours...and be restored?!
this is amazing. exactly true. i’m so proud of you in everything you do! you have always had drive and passion, now you’ve got wisdom and discernment to add to it. and you always use your gifts to bless others- esp Lo :)))
Tatum, I feel exactly the same way. I crave “getting away” time even if it’s in my own home.
